Peter Van Tongerloo was born in Turnhout, in  Belgium in 1946.  He studied at the prestigious Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp from 1968 and then at National High Institute of Fine Arts in Antwerp graduating in 1973.  His passion was to study the work and techniques of the Dutch Masters of the 16th and 17th centuries.

During his 40 year painting career, Peter has developed his own contemporary still life style. While remaining faithful to the techniques used by the Flemish painters his compositions and components are firmly from the 20thand 21st century thus reflecting modern life. His paintings often charmingly feature vintage clockwork toys from these eras. Peter is a delightful storyteller, creating ideas to engage the viewer on many levels. With his fine handling of paint and colour he presents works that are poetic, harmonious and humorous.

Peter has won several awards and his paintings are regularly exhibited in Antwerp, Brussels, Amsterdam and England including London. His works can be found in both private and public collections worldwide.
