Konrad Bartelski

Konrad had a desire to be a downhill ski racer from an early age and first competed in the FIS Ski World Cup when he was sixteen. The following year he raced in the 1972 Olympic Winter Games at Sapporo, Japan. He then skied at the 1976 and 1980 Olympic Winter Games. In 1981 in Val Gardena he came second in the Downhill and the Union Flag was hoisted above a World Cup podium and a long held ambition was realised.

Furthermore Konrad has undertaken many expeditions to the extreme and remote areas of the world including the Arctic North of Norway, the volcanoes of Iceland and Japan, the uncharted slopes of Kyrgystan, the backcountry in the Alps, Northern California, Kashmir and Patagonia.

Photography always was and remains Konrad’s main ‘leisure’ pursuit and he has been engaged with it over the last 50 years. With a camera always by his side or in his back pack he has been able to capture some of the most challenging and spectacular landscapes around the globe.
